[EXES] Chapter 61 – Virus Infection (II)

After a moment of silence, Jiang Sheng suddenly spoke up and asked Su Mu,
“Master Su, should we tie them up? What if they mutate?”

Su Mu lowered his gaze slightly. “Mm.”

Long before setting out for the H City base, they had prepared several coils of hemp rope and kept them in the vehicle. It was meant as a precaution—if someone were injured by a zombie along the way, they could be restrained. That way, even if they turned into a zombie, they wouldn’t be able to hurt anyone.

Jiang Sheng picked up the rope and was about to call for help when a sudden chill ran down his spine. Only moments ago, Su Mu had warned them that the strange blood rain might contain a virus. If he went to tie those people up, he would inevitably come into contact with the rainwater still clinging to them. And if he got infected…

The group exchanged uneasy looks. No one dared step forward.

After a brief pause, Su Mu loosened his hold on Su Wanmei, took the rope from Jiang Sheng’s hand, and walked straight toward the two people huddled under the blankets in the corner. Before he could take more than a few steps, someone grabbed his wrist tightly.

Luo Beiyao lifted his head, deep black phoenix eyes fixed stubbornly on him.
“Don’t go.”

Su Mu said nothing. He raised his hand and tried to pull free, but Luo Beiyao’s grip was too tight. A red mark quickly formed around Su Mu’s wrist, yet he still couldn’t break free.

Looking down at Luo Beiyao from above, Su Mu spoke coldly, his expression unreadable.
“Let go.”

Luo Beiyao pressed his lips together and remained silent, his gaze never leaving Su Mu’s face.

Su Wanmei finally realized what Su Mu was trying to do, and her heart jolted in fright. At the same time, she couldn’t help feeling a trace of guilt toward Luo Beiyao for stopping him.

Su Mu said flatly, “The rainwater may carry infection.”

“We were all caught in the rain.” Luo Beiyao tightened his grip, so hard it felt as if he might crush Su Mu’s bones—yet Su Mu didn’t even frown.

Growing impatient, Su Mu gave a short response and tossed the rope onto the floor.
“Let go.”

This time, Luo Beiyao didn’t persist. The moment Su Mu finished speaking, he released his hand, watching silently as Su Mu returned to his original spot, his expression complicated and challenging to read.

Luo Beiyao’s words had, in fact, reminded everyone of something important. Every single one of them had been rained on—maybe not much, but it was enough. Like a pot of porridge with a single dead rat dropped into it, even if there was only one, no one would want to eat from it.

If that blood rain truly carried a virus, then each one of them could be infected. True, it had only touched their skin—but rain the color of fresh blood was far too bizarre. Even before the apocalypse, it would have been unsettling. After the apocalypse, it was downright terrifying.

Inside the vehicle, the possibility that danger could be right next to them filled everyone with overwhelming fear. Apart from Luo Beiyao, a cultivator immune to viral infection, even the usually calm Su Mu couldn’t help but tighten his hold on Su Wanmei.

Jiang Sheng happened to catch sight of Su Mu’s slightly trembling fingers and couldn’t suppress a flicker of surprise. So even someone as composed as Su Mu could feel fear. He had always thought Su Mu was like a cold, emotionless killer possessed by some ruthless soul.

To think he was still pondering such things at a moment like this.

Jiang Sheng lifted his eyes and looked steadily at Su Mu. Perhaps Su Mu himself had never noticed it, but even though his abilities were limited, being near him always gave Jiang Sheng a strange sense of security. Even now, in a situation this dire, just seeing Su Mu’s calm, self-controlled face made him feel that maybe things weren’t that bad after all.

Looks like he really had chosen the right thigh to cling to.

The only problem was—Su Mu clearly found him incredibly annoying.
