This gas station looked like it had already been visited. There wasn’t much gasoline left inside. They filled both vehicles and loaded two extra barrels, leaving the rest for other survivors.
Before the apocalypse, keeping gasoline barrels in a vehicle was absolutely forbidden. Gasoline sloshing and rubbing inside a container could generate static electricity, which could spark and cause a fire.
But after the apocalypse, gas stations had no staff, and gasoline became as precious as food. If zombies gave chase, using a vehicle significantly increased the chance of shaking off a horde. Having a car was equivalent to having an extra life, and gasoline was indispensable to it.
After refueling, they continued on the road.
Suddenly, Su Wanmei switched seats with Xin Qimeng in the front. Seeing her sit down, Luo Beiyao curled his lips into a smile.
“Auntie Su.”
Su Wanmei glanced at Su Mu, who had his eyes closed and seemed fast asleep. Only then did she tuck her hair behind her ear and smile at Luo Beiyao with gentle affection. She lowered her voice.
“Ah Yao, how are things between you and Mu Mu lately?”
From the rhythm of his breathing alone, Luo Beiyao could tell Su Mu was pretending to sleep. He didn’t expose it. Instead, adopting a completely different attitude from the one he showed Su Mu, he put on a docile expression.
“He’s been having another disagreement with me recently.”
Su Wanmei let out a soft “Ah,” her eyes widening slightly in surprise.
“What happened?”
She had only meant to come over to check on their situation, but hearing this answer made her heart lift again in worry.
Warmth lingered at the corner of Luo Beiyao’s eyes as he spoke gently to reassure her.
“It’s nothing. He thinks I was too obvious in front of everyone. He’s thin-skinned.”
Su Wanmei’s expression softened a little. She didn’t say anything more, though a trace of complexity lay hidden in her eyes.
In the past, even if Su Mu were shy, he wouldn’t get angry even when Luo Beiyao sometimes went too far in public. At most, he would say a few words.
Life in the apocalypse was monotonous and dull, with no entertainment. Yet no one felt bored—being alive was already the most excellent fortune. What more could they ask for?

By the time evening came and the truck stopped, Su Mu was still immersed in the mysterious state of absorbing the Zombie Emperor crystal core and upgrading his abilities. He had always been taciturn and didn’t like talking much. Absorbing a crystal core on his own didn’t bore him in the slightest.
There were no edible wild animals around like the night before. Everyone took out their own dry rations to eat. Seeing that Su Mu hadn’t eaten all day, Lu Shuangshuang was about to wake him, but Su Wanmei stopped her.
Meeting Su Wanmei’s gently smiling gaze, Luo Beiyao immediately understood what she meant. He couldn’t help lifting the corner of his lips and reached out to poke Su Mu’s cheek.
“You’ve been asleep all day. Aren’t you hungry?”
What answered him was silence—and the young man’s completely expressionless face.
Luo Beiyao paused slightly. Just as his long fingers hooked under the hem of Su Mu’s clothes, they were caught and flung away with force. He looked up, straight into a pair of cool, beautiful peach-blossom eyes.
“What are you trying to do?” Su Mu asked coldly.
Seeing that no one was paying attention to them, Luo Beiyao lowered his voice, half-smiling.
“Take a guess.”
The chill in Su Mu’s eyes deepened instantly. He pressed his lips together and said nothing.
Seeing his expression clearly cool down, Luo Beiyao knew when to stop. He leaned over with a grin. “I was just joking. You’re mad again?”
Su Mu ignored him.
