[EXES] Chapter 31: Might as Well Go And Die Once

In the living room, everyone was gathered as they talked quietly.
Wu Keke carefully peeled off the makeshift bandage Fang Yiyang had wrapped around his arm and patiently rewrapped the wound. With no tape, she could only tie a knot at the end.

When footsteps sounded from the stairs, everyone looked up at once. Once they saw it was Su Mu, the tension in the room visibly eased.

Lu Shuangshuang froze for a second. Her eyes immediately reddened, and she rubbed at them hard, her voice catching as she sniffled. Her fingers clenched the hem of her clothes, her slender frame trembling slightly.

Jiang Sheng grinned, trying to lighten the mood. “Su-Ge, I got Aunt Su settled and asleep.”

Su Mu nodded and took an empty seat, coincidentally facing Lu Shuangshuang.

When their eyes met, he only belatedly realized she had been crying. Her eyes were red like a rabbit’s.

He frowned slightly and said flatly, “Why are you crying? Didn’t I say it already? My injury has nothing to do with you.”

Lu Shuangshuang wiped her tears and forced a smile. “I’m worried about you, okay?”

Su Mu pressed his lips together. Luo Beiyao’s earlier warning flashed through his mind.

He didn’t respond. Instead, he reached for one of the neatly arranged shopping bags beside him, tore open a piece of bread, and ate slowly. In the apocalypse, fresh food was a privilege reserved for the powerful. Su Mu had always learned to cherish every meal.

Not long after, footsteps sounded again.

Luo Beiyao came downstairs looking perfectly calm, as if nothing had happened upstairs. He walked straight over, pushed Fang Yiyang aside without ceremony, and sat down next to Su Mu.

Then, his arm wrapped around Su Mu’s shoulders. Warm breath brushed against his cheek.

“Does it still hurt?” Luo Beiyao asked softly, his tone intimate to the point of being excessive.

—Click.

That familiar sense of losing control returned. Su Mu realized he couldn’t move again.

His face went completely blank as he stared straight ahead, lips pressed tightly together. With so many people present, he couldn’t openly resist.

If this got any more awkward—
Su Mu felt he might as well go and die once.

No one else thought anything was strange.

In the apocalypse, actions like these just meant they were extremely close.
From Luo Beiyao risking everything to come to the Su household when the apocalypse broke out, to rushing to bring Su Mu back after he was injured—who would do that without genuine attachment?

Jiang Sheng, however, felt his scalp go numb.

He honestly couldn’t understand these two.

If they weren’t back together, then Luo Beiyao’s behavior had already crossed the border.
But if they were back together, why hadn’t Luo Beiyao dragged Su Mu away already?

Had Su Mu explained things to him or not? It didn’t make sense no matter how he looked at it. After all, Su Mu’s current expression looked like he wanted to murder Luo Beiyao on the spot.

There were a few unfamiliar faces in the living room now.

They were survivors who had escaped from the hospital earlier. Initially, there had been four—one had been killed by Fang Yiyang, leaving three.

The only woman, Zou Huan, had been a doctor before the apocalypse.
The two men were in their prime: Yan Yitao, a vision-type esper, and Zhou Haichen, a fire-type esper.

Zhou Haichen was the scar-faced man who had pulled Fang Yiyang back earlier.

In the apocalypse, a doctor’s value was nearly priceless.

According to their account, they had risked entering the hospital because their team included a doctor. If they could obtain medical equipment, their chances of survival would increase significantly.

So they took the gamble.
