[EXES] Chapter 37: A Near-Monstrous Level of Lightning Control

The low-level zombies had already closed in. No matter how uncomfortable he felt, there was no choice but to keep fighting. Luo Beiyao could have killed that high-level zombie with a single strike, but the scene he had just seen under mental stimulation made him hesitate despite himself.

The high-level zombie hid behind the swarm of low-level ones, staring unwillingly at Su Mu beside Luo Beiyao. A trace of human-like wariness and vigilance flickered through its murky eyes.

Before it could move again to retreat from the area, several razor-sharp, bone-chilling ice spikes flew past the low-level zombies in front. Precise and ruthless, they slammed straight into the zombie king’s head, splitting its rotten, bluish skull into several chunks.

Luo Beiyao had intended to store the zombie king in his space for further study, but Su Mu moved far too quickly. At the same time, he was startled by Su Mu’s strength. His expression did not change, and his long blade moved in coordination with Su Mu’s actions. Within a few breaths, several zombie corpses lay scattered across the ground.

With the zombie king gone, the remaining low-level zombies lost all command and could only act on their instinctive craving for flesh, lunging forward without restraint.

The group retreated while fighting. The dense mass of zombies crowded into the corridor, pressing together like a mountain, none willing—or able—to give way. Their completely rotted brains left them incapable of independent thought; they only knew to push forward and fight over food.

In the end, the zombies became tightly jammed in the narrow hallway. Putrid, foul-smelling arms and grotesque heads continued to stretch forward relentlessly. Smelling fresh blood ahead, the zombies behind let out nearly frenzied roars. Hundreds of zombies howled at once, the overwhelming noise enough to make one’s whole body tremble.

Even after more than half a month of struggling through the apocalypse, having gradually grown accustomed to such sights, everyone except Su Mu, Luo Beiyao, and Wu Keke looked visibly pale.

If not for the hospital’s soundproofing, the zombies outside would likely have been drawn in already—after all, zombies were especially sensitive to sound.

“I… let’s go,” Lu Shuangshuang said, her face white as she subconsciously moved closer to Su Mu.

Luo Beiyao felt irritated. He reached out and hooked Su Mu’s wrist, a dark glint flashing rapidly through his deep phoenix eyes.

Without a word, Su Mu shook off Luo Beiyao’s grip. His gaze darkened. The zombie king he had killed earlier was still behind the horde—he was unwilling to waste that crystal core.

At the same time, Su Mu was genuinely surprised. That zombie king had been far weaker than he’d expected; he hadn’t even gone all out before killing it.

Pushed by the zombies behind them, the ones in front slammed to the ground with a loud bang. Rotten, stinking flesh burst apart, splattering across the white marble floor.

The zombies behind dragged their stiff legs forward in pursuit. Any further hesitation would only lead to death. Just as someone was about to grab another and retreat, Su Mu condensed layers of frost around the zombies’ feet. With several heavy crashes, another large group fell to the ground—this time, one zombie even snapped its neck, its head rolling away across the floor.

At the exact moment the frost froze their feet, a deep purple bolt of lightning crackled into existence in Luo Beiyao’s palm. Carrying a suffocating pressure, it slammed violently into the zombie swarm.

Along with that terrifying bolt of lightning came the stench of burning flesh. The group stared in shock as the zombies struck by it were reduced to piles of ash.

Everything in the lightning’s path turned to ash—yet the hospital walls and floors remained completely unharmed.

Such precise, overwhelming control could only be described as monstrous.
