After learning that Su Mu was fine, Lu Shuangshuang’s emotions gradually settled. Only then did she belatedly realize something was off.
Hadn’t Luo Beiyao and Su Mu always started fighting the moment they met? The two of them had looked like they wanted nothing more than to kill each other. And yet, the moment Luo Beiyao heard that a zombie had injured Su Mu, he immediately rushed out and brought him back.
So what exactly was going on between them?
Lost in this question, Lu Shuangshuang temporarily overlooked how Luo Beiyao had managed to find Su Mu in the first place. After all, in his panic, he had conveniently “forgotten to ask for directions,” using that as a way to cover up his own secrets.
Lu Shuangshuang hadn’t noticed—but that didn’t mean no one else had.
In the apocalypse, human hearts were dangerous things. Everyone had secrets of their own. Things that didn’t need to be known were best left unspoken, with just enough restraint.
Meanwhile, Su Mu’s dream was pitch-black—so dark he couldn’t even see his own hand in front of his face. The silence around him was oppressive, heavy enough to make it hard to breathe.
He groped his way forward through the darkness until a faint white light appeared in the distance.
He immediately quickened his pace toward it, only to realize that it wasn’t just him moving closer—the white light was rapidly approaching him as well.
Su Mu stopped. After a moment, he took several steps back, clenching his fists. His eyes, dark as the night itself, stared warily toward the source of the light.
Not long after he halted, the white light—far away just moments ago—suddenly appeared right in front of him, illuminating everything around them as bright as day.
Su Mu narrowed his eyes, his gaze settling on the young man before him.
A face as exquisitely perfect as an ink painting. A tall, slender figure. A face identical to his, except for the gentle curve at the corner of the lips. Those alluring, night-colored eyes seemed filled with starlight, and his whole presence felt warm, like sunlight itself.
Without hesitation, Su Mu spoke. “You’re the original Su Mu?”
The other frowned slightly. Even though his mood clearly wasn’t great, his gentle nature prevented him from making any overly sharp expressions. He looked straight back at Su Mu.
“There’s no need to distinguish between us,” he said softly. “Because you are me, and I am—”
Before he could finish, the scene shattered like broken glass, splitting into countless fragments and collapsing completely.
That gentle, warm face cracked apart in front of Su Mu, piece by piece. He watched silently as the light faded away, little by little.

When brightness returned to his vision, he realized he was leaning against someone’s chest.
His cheek rested against a solid, well-defined torso. Su Mu’s eyes turned cold. Just as he was about to push the person away, the other party released him first, considerately stepping back.
“You’re awake?”
Remembering the words the original owner of the body hadn’t finished in the dream, Su Mu’s expression darkened. His attitude toward Luo Beiyao immediately soured.
“Are you blind?”
Luo Beiyao ignored the hostility. He stared at Su Mu’s calm, indifferent face for a long moment before finally speaking.
“Can we talk?”
Su Mu: “?”
Catching the fleeting hint of confusion in Su Mu’s eyes, Luo Beiyao curved his lips slightly.
“We were together in high school. We went through so much. I don’t believe you never had feelings for me back then. And you know how I feel about you.”
He paused, then continued quietly, “If there’s something I did wrong, tell me. Say it—and I’ll change.”
Su Mu frowned faintly. “What are you trying to say?”
Luo Beiyao’s gaze softened. He reached out, wanting to take Su Mu’s hand—but Su Mu dodged without hesitation. Luo Beiyao’s fingers stiffened slightly in midair.
“Can we get back together?” he asked. “Anything you don’t like about me, I can change it. I have strength now. In this apocalypse, I can protect you and Aunt Su. What do you think?”
Su Mu glanced at him, meeting those dark eyes filled with both hope and hesitation. Combined with the dream he’d just had, his thoughts immediately sank into deep contemplation.
