[EXES] Chapter 22 – Is My Brother Dead?

Blade rising and falling, his movements were mechanical yet precise—fast, forceful. With every strike, a zombie’s head hit the ground. He skillfully used his ice ability to slow their steps, coordinating seamlessly with his long blade. His killing speed was easily more than twice that of the others.

They fought as they retreated, careful not to be surrounded. Step by step, Su Mu led them back toward the Su residence. His fair, handsome face was splattered with dark, congealed zombie blood. Yet, it did nothing to conceal the calm composure he maintained throughout.

More than half of the zombies were already down. Su Mu’s expression never changed. Nearly half of the corpses on the ground were his work alone, yet he showed not the slightest hint of fatigue. It was this battle that finally made everyone present see—clearly—Su Mu’s strength and will.

“Aah—!”

A sudden scream rang out.

The group, nerves stretched taut as they fought, jolted instinctively. But with so many zombies pressing in, no one dared spare a glance. What followed was the sickening sound of flesh and bone being torn apart—then chewing.

Everyone’s faces changed.

“Brother!!” Fang Yiyang raised his already clawed arm and hacked down the zombie that had just torn a massive chunk of flesh from Fang Yihan’s face. A tearing pain ripped through his chest, spreading to his limbs. He lunged toward the horde, trying desperately to grab his brother’s hand—

—but the scar-faced man beside him yanked him back, dragging him behind the group to safety.

Blade flashing, the man shouted harshly, “Do you want him to die for nothing?!”

Fang Yiyang stood there in a daze, staring at the place where his brother had disappeared beneath the zombies. Among the mangled, blood-soaked bodies, only one foot was visible—still wearing a sneaker, stained red.

Then that foot was violently twisted off and stuffed into a gaping mouth full of fangs and drool, chewed with wet, grinding sounds.

Brother…

Is my brother dead?

With two fighters gone, the pressure on the rest increased sharply. The young man who had shoved Fang Yihan into the zombie horde had already run some distance away. Fang Yiyang snapped back to reality. He picked up an iron rod, eyes burning red, and charged after him.

“Bastard—give my brother back!!”

Seeing Fang Yiyang closing in, the man stumbled in terror. His abilities were already exhausted, and he was no match physically. With his strength drained, he barely managed a few steps before Fang Yiyang caught him.

Fang Yiyang slammed him against the wall by the collar, cracking his head open. The once fair, delicate face was now smeared with tears and snot, twisted in panic. A sharp stench of urine filled the air as he wailed and begged Fang Yiyang for mercy.

Fang Yiyang still didn’t hesitate. He snapped the man’s arms and legs, hoisted him up, and hurled him straight into the zombie horde and that bone-chilling chewing sound rang out once more.

Everyone’s expressions grew darker. Their hands never slowed. One moment of carelessness, and they would end up the same way—torn apart and eaten alive.

The final zombie fell beneath Su Mu’s blade.

He wiped his face when Su Wanmei suddenly grabbed him. “Mu Mu…”

Her eyes were wide with terror, her hands shaking uncontrollably. She had held it together the entire time, but the moment the zombies were gone, she could no longer endure it. The sound of flesh being chewed replayed in her mind, and she couldn’t stop herself from imagining Su Mu being infected—turning into one of those mindless monsters that fed on blood and flesh.

Su Mu’s injury was on his back. Everyone’s attention was fixed on the two mangled piles of bones on the ground. No one noticed that he’d been hurt earlier.

Su Mu wrapped an arm around Su Wanmei’s shoulders, soothing her. He lowered his head and pressed a brief kiss to her forehead. Then he stepped forward, looking at Fang Yiyang, who was clutching his injured arm, his expression dark.

“What happened?”
