[EXES] Chapter 18 – Each Going Their Own Way

When Luo Beiyao stepped closer and tossed a block of instant noodles into the pot, Su Mu instinctively wanted to take a step back. However, his legs felt glued to the floor, completely unmoving. His body stiffened slightly. Su Mu didn’t speak, only calmly met Luo Beiyao’s deep, cold phoenix eyes, as if he already understood everything.

Luo Beiyao stood shoulder to shoulder with him. Tall and straight, he was more than half a head taller than Su Mu. He suddenly lowered his head, appearing almost intimate as he spoke quietly by his side.

Lu Shuangshuang awkwardly twisted her fingers together. Why did it suddenly feel like she was superfluous? There was nothing for her to do if she stayed, and it wasn’t appropriate to interrupt them either. So she silently withdrew from the kitchen.

Su Mu looked at Luo Beiyao with an indifferent expression. Only when the other’s warm breath brushed ambiguously against his temple did a crack finally appear on that calm face.
His expression darkened, yet his head remained frozen in place, unable to even turn away. If this had happened in the past, Su Mu wouldn’t have been so sensitive. He had spent many years in the military—close comrades were practically brothers, used to slinging arms over each other’s shoulders.

This level of contact was nothing. The problem was who the other person was. Luo Beiyao—a certified, unquestionable gay man. And one who hadn’t even been “straightened out” by Wu Keke yet.
The corner of Luo Beiyao’s lips curved slightly. His smile was faint, like still water, yet his eyes were as deep and cold as a thousand-foot abyss.

“So,” he asked softly, “you’ve taken a liking to Lu Shuangshuang?”

Su Mu: “……”

From beginning to end, had he said a single word that implied he was interested in Lu Shuangshuang? Luo Beiyao grabbed the back of Su Mu’s neck with one hand, forcing him to meet his gaze.

With a half-smile, he mocked him, “Didn’t you want to latch onto a rich patron? Now that the apocalypse has broken out, money’s nothing but scrap paper. Only strength lets you walk sideways in this world. How about changing patrons? What do you think of me—am I not stronger than your previous benefactor?”

Su Mu listened to him expressionlessly, without a ripple in his heart.
“And then?” he asked.

Luo Beiyao watched Su Mu’s face closely, paying attention to even the slightest change in expression. Seeing that he remained completely unmoved, he paused briefly. “What do you want?”

Su Mu replied calmly, “I want you to stop bothering me from now on. Can’t we just live our own lives?”

The strength in Luo Beiyao’s hand didn’t lessen at all. He suddenly bit Su Mu’s earlobe in an intimate gesture. Feeling Su Mu’s body stiffen instantly, he became even more unrestrained, giving it a deliberate lick.

Su Mu wanted to hit someone. Veins bulged sharply on the back of his fair hand. It felt as though some invisible force was suppressing his control over his own body. As he mobilised all his abilities to forcibly break free, the other’s powerful mental force came crashing down on him with brutal dominance.

Whether ability users or zombies, all of them placed great importance on differences in level. Since he had forcibly broken the formation and suffered backlash, there was nothing more to say.

But Su Mu keenly sensed that Luo Beiyao’s ability wasn’t simple at all. It couldn’t be just lightning-type abilities—after all, he had never seen a lightning user who could act this recklessly.

Hit by the backlash of power, Su Mu coughed hard a few times, his throat flooding with a metallic sweetness. He frowned slightly. “Can’t you act normal?”

Luo Beiyao’s movements froze. “How am I not normal?”

Su Mu replied evenly, “Please correct the parts where you’ve gone off track. I’m a man. From now on, we’ll each live our own lives. What happened before is already in the past.”
